arrow-progressRaces and routes

Definition

Wiclax allows you to manage many races or routes in a single event, that's to say in a single file.

Defining different races is necessary when competitors will have a different route or number of laps to complete, do not share the same start, or simply need to be ranked independently of other groups.

If the participants in your event are all competing the same race, there is no point in declaring this race as such (you can manage the event by ignoring the notion of race).

Creation

Races can be created from the beginning via the event creation wizard. Once the event is initialized, they can be found here, where new ones can be freely added:

Editing the race list

The properties of a race, optional except the name, are mainly its distance, its color (visual utility to help identify the race) and an associated bib range. If this range is defined then the race can assigned automatically when a competitor gets registered or imported.

If your event has multiple races, entering a distance for the event itself is unnecessary. However, the distance of each race will be taken into account when calculating the participants' average speed.

Registrations and results

When registering a participant, you can specify which race he/she's belonging to by selecting it from the corresponding list. If you have specified bib ranges for the races, the race will be automatically deducted from the bib number.

When entering a result, the form recalls the race assigned to the competitor as well as the eventual start time associated with this race.

A competitor's assignment to a race can be changed at any time, even when the competitor already holds results. This can be done from a grid (participants or results), from the participant entry form or from the result entry form.

In the case of a stage race, the same competitor is always assigned to a single race for all the stages.

Operating

When multiple races are defined for the event, a filter banner is displayed above the grids. These filters are a shortcut to obtain a selection of rows belonging to the race of your choice. By hovering over a race filter button, you will quickly obtain a summary of its information such as the number of finishers.

This control panel also allows:

  • To enter the start time of the race

  • To mark a race as completed. Once marked as completed, the acquisition of passes for athletes in this race will be blocked. This operation is also useful for updating the event live session, removing the clock for this race, or eliminating the display of the last laps of this race.

  • To switch the race as the focused race

It is possible to make a filter that combines multiple races, by holding down the Control or Shift key while clicking on multiple races.

When editing podiums, team rankings or the bib table, you can select a race for which the report is displayed or calculated.

By hovering over the arrivals progress bar (at the bottom of the main window), you can view the counters for all races and split points summarized in a single table.

Automatic assignment

The race will be automatically assigned to competitors in 2 cases:

  • if you associate bib slots with each race: the assignment will be made accordingly when entering the competitor or when their bib number is modified. For example 10K race has bibs from 1 to 1999.

  • if you set custom conditions for each race. Use the Automatic assignment button located below the race list to edit a condition. Doing so, the race will be re-evaluated at any time when a data change occurs - either a registration data or a result data.

In each of these cases, the Assign to Competitors button below the race list can be used to make a new global assignment, taking into account the new parameters.

Free choice for the route

A common scenario is when participants are (somehow) allowed to decide after the start which route they will run. Let's see how we deal with that on a typical case:

  • 2 races are defined - a short and a long distance, and you have a High path split point allowing to know who went for the long route

  • on the initial start list every participant is assigned the short distance race

  • on the race list a rule is added to automatically assign the long race to someone having a split time:

  • to ensure this will be working smoothly, the split point has to be set with this important property:

This way no split acquisition will be blocked for the reason it's not matching the participant's current race, while on the map the split point will be correctly displayed only for the long distance.

And voila, in the end on the finish line every competitor will belong to the real race he/she did.

Other rankings

Defining a sub-classification does not always require defining a race. For example, if you need something like the foreigners' classification:

  1. assign a filter to the grid of participants, or the result grid:

  2. in the ribbon, click New in the Main Classifications block:

  3. In the dialog that opens, give a name and possibly a title for the classification:

  4. You can come back later to modify these properties, for example choosing whether the ranking should be published on the web. On the general interface it gets displayed at the same level as the races to be quickly consulted or printed:
